Yesterday's Meeting of the Identity Working Group
Hi all,
Thanks to Stephane Mouy, Michael Adams and Roland Faure for an engaging and interesting presentation on the eIDAS Framework 2.0 and the Digital Identity Wallet, including a demo.
To remind everyone of the Agenda:
An exploration of a solution, Stephane Mouy (SGM Consulting) & Michael Adams from Quali-sign (UK) on an eIDAS 2.0-compliant Digital Identity wallet with a payment focus – which has already been presented to the EU Commission and ECB (for a CBDC perspective). With a demo. The eIDAS 2.0 proposal mandates that digital identity wallets support the offline functionality (i.e. a BLE, NFC or QR code proximity connection). It is hard to - reconcile this requirement – which incidentally is critical for POS/POI payment interactions, and a must for CBDCs – with any blockchain or DLT-based solution. The solution relies on X509 standards. This also ensures ‘reciprocal consent’ for payments, which is difficult to achieve with current VC standards from the W3C.
The full recording of the session is available on the meeting page. We will add the presentation decks when we receive them.
We should engage with the authors to reconcile
a. The standard as it stands and implementation challenges (for offline use and reciprocal consent) with a DLT implementation.
b. Other nuances of the Digital Wallet standards.
Thanks,
Vipin
