An exploration of a solution, Stephane Mouy (SGM Consulting) & Michael Adams from Quali-sign (UK) on an eIDAS 2.0-compliant Digital Identity wallet with a payment focus – which has already been presented to the EU Commission and ECB (for a CBDC perspective). With a demo.

The eIDAS 2.0 proposal mandates that digital identity wallets support the offline functionality (i.e. a BLE, NFC or QR code proximity connection).  It is hard to - reconcile this requirement – which incidentally is critical for POS/POI payment interactions, and a must for CBDCs  – with any blockchain or DLT-based solution.

The solution relies on X509 standards. This also ensures  ‘reciprocal consent’ for payments, which is difficult to achieve with current VC standards from the W3C.
