[Hyperledger Project TSC] Thoughts on the Digital Asset GSL Paper from Last Year
Richard Brown <richard@...>
Team,
Fyi - I wrote up some thoughts on Digital Asset’s GSL paper from last year on my blog - https://gendal.me/2017/01/24/towards-deeper-collaboration-in-distributed-ledgers-thoughts-on-digital-assets-global-synchronisation-log/
Cheers,

Hi Richard, Agree on your comments about GSL and the need for collaboration and re-use rather than re-invent. We are in (initial) talks with Digital Assets on how we can leverage/re-use GSL across the different distributed ledgers and the role we all can play as a community. Corda has some architectural differences (no blockchain) compared to other DL implementations, but does that negate it from using DAH’s GSL? Can we explore the possibility here? Re-use of components across the different DL implementations will push us towards standards (interfaces), which in-turn will push the boundaries further towards interoperability. We would want to include you in our (DTCC & DAH) discussions and any other parties interested in exploring this further.
Thanks Murali

Hi Murali,
Thanks for the feedback. Great to know you’re also looking at this.
We’d very much like to be included in any discussions about this.
As I wrote in my blog post, my strong sense upon reading the paper was that it seemed like Corda could actually be a very good way to _implement_ the GSL concept, as opposed to being a consumer _of_ it. But that was one of the reasons I wrote the piece… I was keen to understand how other people were viewing things and explore what that would mean.
For example, and assuming my initial assessment is correct, then you’re right that an obvious next step would be to talk about interfaces.
I can’t be on today’s TSC call unfortunately but hopefully we can capture a good discussion via email.
Richard
