Dear Hyperledger Social Impact Special Interest Group colleagues,

Greetings from sunny Bonn, Germany. To introduce myself to the group I am working as a Policy Specialist for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in the Volunteer Solutions Team. In my role, I am also currently serving in the UNV Digital Transformation working group on frontier technologies – smart contracting, artificial intelligence, blockchain and big data. I am copying the team as other members may wish to also participate in the discussions of this group.

To provide some background, UNV seeks to transform itself to become the main global volunteer organization for international peace and development for all organizations of the United Nations mandated activities. This includes increasing onsite volunteer opportunities and expanding online volunteer services in furtherance of the sustainable development goals.

UNV is undertaking a digital transformation to provide a means to growth of the organization, a user-centric virtual work place, independent from physical location, with new capabilities for more UNV volunteering solutions within the United Nations and new opportunities within the global sustainable development agenda.

In my work in this area we will be endeavoring towards an innovative digital business platform including device-agnostic, online self-service to clients (UN Agencies, governments, academia, NGOs, online and onsite volunteers), digital contracting agents, enabled by Artificial Intelligence, with agile volunteer solutions that utilize predictive data analytics on UNV’s policies, results, and operational efficiency.

Furthermore, we will be striving to ensure that the technology developed should be open source and able to foster youth empowerment, civic engagement and entrepreneurship, develop capacities of youth volunteer organizations and create networks of volunteers and support institutional environment, volunteer collaborative frameworks and infrastructure.

As part of the Hyperledger Social Impact Special Interest Group I hope to gain inspiration and share knowledge in furtherance of emerging use case ideas on a frontier technology powered digital platform of action in furtherance of the recently passed General Assembly Resolution Volunteering for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (A/RES/73/140) in line with the principles of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation and in support of Sustainable Development Goals accredited voluntary actions.

Very much looking forward to actively participating in this forum and exchanging best practice and inspiration. Contact information is noted below.
