Recap Sept. 5th Meeting

Karen Ottoni

Dear SI-SIG Community,

If you didn't catch our call last week then let me be the first to let you know that our Special Interest Group has a new Chair: Nancy Min. Nancy introduced herself on our call and shared what she hopes for the group. I'll let her respond here to introduce herself to those who couldn't make the call (or catch the recording at the link below) Thank you to Alissa and Ric for helping start this group a year ago. And please welcome Nancy!

We also added more volunteers to the groups that will begin to focus on specific workstreams within our SIG. Nancy has created a page for each on our wiki so that we can begin to put pen to paper on next steps for each workstream during and between our meetings.

1. Whitepaper https://wiki.hyperledger.org/display/SISIG/SI+-+Whitepaper

2. Use Cases and Best Practices https://wiki.hyperledger.org/display/SISIG/SI+-+Research%3A+Use+Cases+and+Best+Practices

3. Community Liaisons https://wiki.hyperledger.org/display/SISIG/SI+-+Community+Liaison

These align with the with the results of our survey, and if you have not already done so please review the notes and the Survey summary slides. It's important as we discuss next steps on the above to remember this feedback you provided:

It is important to you that we…be a thought leader to shape the technology, shape standards, consider environmental impacts, and understand what is being done already
You want to do the above in...digital currencies, aid/philanthropy, supply chain, and best practices in implementation
And so first we will...define use cases, best practices, identify project proposals in proposed areas, and start a white paper on the above

Nancy will take the lead from now on in facilitating our discussions and communications. I will continue to be involved in the group, but would like to thank you all for your contributions and participation while I led us during a transition period.

Nancy will be sharing an agenda soon and our call will return back to its regular day and time next week at 10am EST on Tuesday. As always, you can find the key info for our group below, including the call time and zoom, and how to add the meeting to your calendar.

Best wishes,
Karen

Nancy Min

Thank you, Karen!

Hello SI-SIG Community,

It was a pleasure meeting everyone on the last call. To those I haven’t met yet, I look forward to meeting you.

I firmly believe that this group serves a critical role in applying distributed ledger technology to use cases that create a positive impact on society. I am excited by the work that this community has contributed and look forward to what is yet to come. As I said in the meeting, if you have any feedback on how we can run the community more effectively, please do not hesitate to call out in our bi-weekly meetings or reach out to me directly.

Please take a look at the workstream pages and include any ideas you have. As Karen mentioned, the agenda for the next meeting is forthcoming.

Look forward to working together.

Best regards,

Nancy Min
