Here is the agenda and meeting details for our next call:
  1. Introductions: Who's new to the group or call? Let's get to know each other and what we're working on in the 'blockchain for impact' world
  2. Debate & Discussion: Accessibility. Dan Middleton, Hyperledger Technical Steering Committee Chair recently brought up the topic of accessibility in our mailing list. This is an oft neglected topic and perspective and it'd be great to engage this group in a discussion around it. We've invited Laurie Henneborn, Managing Director in Research at Accenture to share with us her experience and perspective on diversity and inclusion, blockchain, and accessibility. Please take a look at her recent HBR article on disability inclusion. Below are a few other background articles on this topic in the blockchain sector as well:
    1. Blockchain Accessibility - The Importance of Digital Accessibility
    2.  The Accessibility issue more people with disabilities should think about
    3. Bitcoin needs to be more accessible for the visually impaired
    4. The Secret World of Disabled Gamers
    5. Smart Cities could be lousy to live in if you have a disability
  3. Presentation: World Vision and Scantrust collaboration in East Timor
  4. Miscellaneous: Share any comments, ideas, announcements, upcoming events.
As always, please feel free to engage outside of our calls on this mailing list, chat, or the wiki. I will be out on PTO this Tuesday, so Alissa Worley will be leading our call.

Hi Alissa,

Let’s see if we can get you a better answer for next time. The projects give quarterly updates to the TSC and that’s a good time to check in with them on design for security and design for accessibility.

Cello’s is next:

Dan – Thanks so much for sharing this. It is so important.

During our Inclusion & Diversity lunch at Consensus last year, one of the questions from the audience at the end of the panel was from a visually impaired gentleman who asked what the industry was doing for accessibility with its tools. It’s stuck with me because I don’t have a good answer.

One outcome of blockchain adoption is an increased accessibility of information, even if that’s just a company to company perspective.

And of course, the adoption of any new technology hinges a lot on usability.

So it’s interesting to watch this 13 minute film, “Access” (https://vimeo.com/311999966), which has nothing to do with blockchain, but a lot to do with the juxtaposition of two forms of accessibility.

Regards,

Dan

During our Inclusion & Diversity lunch at Consensus last year, one of the questions from the audience at the end of the panel was from a visually impaired gentleman who asked what the industry was doing for accessibility with its tools. It’s stuck with me because I don’t have a good answer.
