Virtual Hyperledger meetups this week featuring labs

David Boswell

There are three virtual meetups happening this week featuring developers from labs speaking about the work they are doing.  These are open to everyone and are a good way to learn about some of the interesting things happening in labs.

If anyone else involved with a lab would like to speak at a meetup about what you're doing, let me know and I'm happy to help connect you to an organizer and promote your event.

Thanks,
David

Hyperledger TSC Election Ends on October 15th

David Boswell

The Hyperledger Technical Steering Committee (TSC) election is currently underway and will end at 11:59 PM (GMT -7) on Friday October 15th, 2021.  Active contributors should have received a ballot via email from the email address noreply@....

If you haven't voted yet, please do before the deadline so your voice can be included.  If you haven't seen your ballot yet, please check your inbox and spam folder.  If the ballot isn't there, email election@... and we will do our best to resolve the issue.

Thanks,
David

FireFly Mailing List, Calendar, and Wiki

Nicko Guyer

Hi all,

This will be the last FireFly email I send out on the Labs mailing list, because FireFly has moved out of labs now. I wanted to send out this last note to help clarify the logistics of the transition.

Code
Most of the FireFly repos in GitHub will auto-redirect to the new upstream, except the FireFly Core repo - the docs didn't auto-redirect so we had to improvise on this one. Sorry about that.

Docs
The docs are located here now: https://hyperledger.github.io/firefly/
The source for the docs is in the main FireFly Core repo, and they're published on merge to the main branch, just like before.

If you have any repos cloned locally, please do take a moment to update your git remote. Just remove the "-labs" from the URL and you should be good to go.

Mailing List
FireFly has its own mailing list now! This is the mailing list that we will use for messages like these, as well as communicating upcoming meetings and events. Please subscribe! For details on how to join the mailing list, please see this page: https://lists.hyperledger.org/g/firefly/

Calendar
We also have our own calendar now! You can find the calendar here: https://lists.hyperledger.org/g/firefly/calendar
If you log in, there is a button on that page to subscribe to the calendar, so you can view events in your own personal calendar app.

Wiki
You can still find the list of community calls under that page in the navigation on the left.

Community Calls
Nothing changes here. We still use the same Zoom link for now. The only difference is that the invite is managed on the FireFly calendar, instead of the Labs calendar.

Hopefully this helps clarify any questions folks may have had about the transition. If anything is still unclear, please don't hesitate to reach out the mailing list firefly@... or to me directly nicko.guyer@....

Thanks!

Nicko

Hyperledger TSC Election candidates and how to vote

David Boswell

I'd like to announce the candidates for the 2021-2022 Hyperledger Technical Steering Committee (TSC) election. There are 26 people running for 15 positions on the TSC.

This election is a chance for you to influence the direction and character of the Hyperledger community.  I encourage you to take the time to read the following candidate statements linked from this email and consider your vote carefully:

You will be using the OpaVote election tool using the Condorcet-IRV completion rule. It is a ranked voting system that allows you to weight candidates by placing them in an order of preference.

A ballot will be sent by email to all registered voters on Friday, October 1 and voting will remain open until 11:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time (GMT -7) on Friday, October 15.  If you are expecting a ballot and don't see one on Friday, first check your spam boxes as it may come from an unrecognized source. If you don't find it there, please send an email to election@....

Thank you,

David

Virtual Hyperledger meetup this Wednesday featuring two labs

David Boswell

There is a virtual meetup happening on Wednesday focused on the Fabric Operations Console lab and it will also contain some information about the Minifabric lab.  Since it is a virtual meetup anyone anywhere is able to join.  Dial-in information is at:

And if you'd like to share about what you're doing with your lab at a virtual Hyperledger meetup, please feel free to reach out to me.  Meetups are a good way to raise the visibility of a lab and to connect with people in the community who may want to use or contribute to what you're doing.

Thanks,
David

Check your eligibility to vote in the upcoming Technical Steering Committee election

David Boswell

Voting for this year's Technical Steering Committee election starts on October 1 and closes on October 15.  We ask that everyone take a couple of minutes now to confirm you are showing up correctly in the voter rolls so you can participate when the voting starts.
