Governance and consortium management #fabric #fabric-questions

Jonathan C.

Hi Hyperledger community,

My name is Jonathan, I have been working and programming for more than a year now on all Hyperledger Fabric aspects.

Today I would like to open a discussion on what I think is the biggest limiting factor for Hyperledger Fabric adoption: Governance and consortium management.

As a consortium, let's say for example, Logistic industry where I can have more than 100+ organizations, how do I create a self-managing entity or more specifically, how do I programmatically reproduce a democratic procedure where the power is distributed between all the participants.

Blockchain is about to change all industries but if we are not able to bring a simple infrastructure/platform to bring some sort of decentralized governance how are we supposed to disrupt entire industry ?

Let's take an example for more clarity. If an organization want to update the smart contract in a consortium with more than 10-100+ organization (if you want to scale a product impacting a whole industry you will probably face those number) what is the process of acceptance ? Or another example if someone wants to join the consortium how should it be done in a automatic and democratic way ?

I believe the biggest threat for adoption is complexity. If we are not able to reproduce/vulgarize one of the biggest benefit of blockchain it will be very difficult to scale the technology.

Is Hyperledger working on some kind of consortium management tools ? Is there any recommended good practices ?

Thanks for your help and feedbacks,

Jonathan.

Very genuine concern ...we all are facing it in our production environments.
Waiting for expert's comments.

We have seen similar requests from our customers.  I’ve discussed this and what Oracle’s thinking is in this area in my HL Global Forum presentation in December.  The recording is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqgpG0ULWBY, with Governance specifics starting around 17m.

Thanks Mark, I actually attended your presentation at HGF it was very informative to get Oracle vision. I hope other top thought leaders will be keen to share their point of view.
